CLM want to observe this day by considering the ways we can help. Poverty is a real crisis that affects millions of people around the world and is increasing, here in the UK. This is a day to acknowledge the suffering of people who have to deal with the consequences of poverty — hunger, violence and homelessness. It is also a day to participate in the global campaign to end poverty.
On October 17, 1987, more than 100,000 people came together in Paris, France, to honour those who were suffering in the shackles of poverty. The gathering was at the location where the Declaration of Human Rights was signed in 1948. On that day, people had also come together for the unveiling of a commemorative stone by Father Joseph Wresinski, a humanitarian. The commemorative stone declared that poverty was a violation of human rights and it was everyone’s duty to come together to work against it.
CLM are committed to working together to eradicate poverty in the UK and improve the lives of those that are less fortunate, through affordable Housing and Healthcare, access to Homes, Heating and Quality, Locally Produced Food. Economical Whitegoods, Lighting, Communal Facilities all play a part in this and CLM want to help.
By reducing energy consumption, improving sustainability and promoting localism, CLM are making a small but important difference towards this. In acknowledgment of this International day, CLM are offering FREE energy audits throughout October in order to help landlords, housing providers, charities, homeless shelters, care providers and local authorities alike, reduce costs for their most vulnerable residents.
If we all work together to address the social and environmental issues that cause poverty, then we can eradicate poverty from the world completely.
